ABOUT ME

Welcome to My Journey – I'm Joe, the Fixed Income Nomad

Just over a year ago, I took a leap that changed my life. After four decades as an electrician, I sold everything I owned to explore the world, armed with nothing but my savings and a boundless curiosity. My travels have taken me to eleven countries in just five and a half months, offering not only a glimpse into diverse cultures but also deep personal revelations.

My Traveling Roots

My passion for travel was ignited in 2009 with a mesmerizing trip to Paris. Over the next decade, I broadened my horizons to fourteen more countries across four continents. My journey wasn’t just geographical—it was transformative. Along the way, I embraced new challenges:

Became a certified copywriter
Performed street magic
Completed five marathons, eight triathlons, and the 2013 Louisville Ironman

Each experience taught me resilience, adaptability, and the joy of surprising myself and others.

Why I Travel on a Fixed Income

On this blog, I share the tips, tricks, and techniques I’ve learned to travel economically. I’ve discovered that seeing the world can be less expensive than staying home in the U.S., and I’m excited to help you explore how manageable and enriching traveling on a budget can be.

Family and Future Plans

Whenever I return to the U.S., my itinerary always includes spending time with my four grandchildren and reconnecting with my two sons and their wonderful wives in Chicago and Sacramento. Family is my anchor, no matter how far I roam.
